STRANGER THINGS 4 Adds Four New Cast Members

Stranger Things has a lot of mysteries left to unravel. Like how exactly Chief Hopper is still alive and in a Soviet prison. But Russia isn’t the only other locale—or world—the show could visit in the future. The series is moving beyond Hawkins. And it will will feature a lot of new characters when it does. Here’s everything we know about Stranger Things 4  so far.

Things are always scary in Hawkins. But in season four they’re going to be a real nightmare. Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, is joining the show. The Nightmare on Elm Street star will be bringing even more terror to the horror series. He’ll play Victor Creel, “a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.” Which sounds perfect for Englund. But he’s just one of many newcomers to the show Netflix has announced. It’s a group that also includes a Game of Throne alum.

Eduardo Franco (Booksmart), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd), and Joseph Quinn (Catherine the Great) will be joining as series regulars.

Franco will star as Argyle, “Jonathan’s new BFF” and “a fun-loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza.” Bower is playing Peter Ballard, “a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital.” Netflix asks, “Tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day, will Peter finally take a stand?” We can’t wait to find out. And Quinn will join them as Eddie Munson, “head of the Hawkins High official D&D Club, The Hellfire Club,” which promises to be a big part of the season.

Other new cast members include Sherman Augustus as Lt. Colonel Sullivan, “an intelligent, no-nonsense man who believes he knows how to stop the evil in Hawkins once and for all.” Though we seriously doubt that. Mason Dye will play Jason Carver, “a handsome, rich athlete who is dating the most popular girl in school. But as a new evil threatens Hawkins, his perfect world begins to unravel.” And Nikola Djuricko will star as Yuri, “a seedy and unpredictable Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes, cold hard cash, and crunchy style peanut butter.”

The former Jaqen H’ghar, Game of Thrones‘ Tom Wlaschiha, will play Dmitri, “a smart and charming Russian prison guard” who befriends Hopper. But just how trustworthy is he? You never know with those Faceless Men…

The Duffer Brothers also introduced new cast members as part of Netflix’s first ever “Geeked Week” virtual event. The latest performers includes Amybeth McNulty. She’ll play Vickie, “a cool, fast-talking band nerd who catches the eye of one of our beloved heroes.” The Duffers also say she’ll play a “big role in events to come.” The pair also said they have wanted to work with McNulty for a long time, since they’re both huge fans of Anne of Green Gables. An appreciation that has popped up on the show previously.

Also heading to Hawkins is Myles Truitt as Patrick. He’s a “basketball star who has friends, talent, and a good life…until shocking events send his life spiraling out of control.” Regina Ting Chen will star as newcomer Ms. Kelly, “a popular guidance counselor who cares deeply for her students — especially those struggling the most.” (We already like her.) And finally Grace Van Dien will play Chrissy. She’s “Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader and the most popular girl in school. But beneath the seemingly perfect surface lies a dark secret.” In a town like Hawkins, that could be one very dark secret.

A Revealing Teaser

Deadline reports The Duffer Brothers—the creators of Stranger Things—have agreed to a massive new deal that will see the pair create new shows and films for Netflix. That includes the fourth season of their hit show, which was formally announced with a teaser video. Despite primarily being a title card promo, it offers some great clues about what to expect. Mainly that the season won’t be spending as much time in Hawkins this time around.

In the video, the Stranger Things 4 title card suddenly finds itself in the Upside Down before being consumed by its roots, rotting and decaying into nothing. A “Welcome to Hawkins” sign can be seen in the background, as can a clock in a nearby tree. But as the video comes to an end, Winchester Chimes can be heard. Then the words “We’re Not In Hawkins Anymore” appear.

The actual Upside Down dimension was a major part of season one. Since then though the series has only showed it without any human characters physically present. (Though some characters like Billy saw it in visions.) There’s still so much about that dark world we don’t know, making it rife for further—and horrifying—exploration.

But what does that have to do with the imagery and sound of the clock? Could the series—which ended with the Byers family and Eleven moving away from Hawkins—be shifting the action to multiple spots around the globe? Is this an allusion to Big Ben in London? Or some other famous clock in the world? Or is it merely a metaphor for how much time “the American” has left in that Russian prison?

Wherever Stranger Things 4 brings us though, one thing is clear: you can leave Hawkins behind, but not the Upside Down.
